For MMT: Book Creation Resources

This page is a resource for MMT folks serious about writing and publishing a world-class book. I’ve put together a list of my favorite tools and insights to help you through the process—whether you’re just starting or years into the journey.

Top 10 Resources for Entrepreneurs

  1. How to Achieve Financial Freedom as an Author. This is my recent interview with Shane Parrish of The Knowledge Project (and Farnam Street).
  2. Bestseller Breakdowns. Want to know why Atomic Habits sold 15M copies? Wonder why The 4-Hour Workweek was a runaway success? I offer my commentary here on this YouTube channel. Related: How to Sell A Million Copies of Your Nonfiction Book.
  3. "No One Buys Books" by Elle Griffin. Traditional publishing doesn’t make sense for 99% of entrepreneurs. Celebrity deals dominate, and most books sell fewer than 1,000 copies. My preferred strategy is to obsess over your "bullseye readers," which paradoxically results in greater sales.
  4. Write The Book You're Qualified to Write. A lot of people make the mistake of hiding behind other people's expertise in their writing. But no reader wants to hear you parrot other authors – they signed up for you.
  5. Book Sales Prediction Tool. Want to know how many copies you'll sell at launch? Fill out the 'Inputs' on this spreadsheet to get an accurate prediction.
  6. Book Title Brainstorm. Your title is the most important marketing decision you'll make. Use this and ChatGPT to quickly score your title ideas. Do not use any title that scores lower than 50. If your title scores above 60, you've hit gold.
  7. Bestselling Book Cover Design Brief. Don't f*ck up your cover, people will judge it harshly. It must be world-class. You can usually get the cover nailed efficiently if you take the time to communicate your style preferences upfront. The way you do that is by creating a cover design brief.
  8. HemingwayApp. My preferred tool for assessing (but not necessarily fixing) the accessibility of the writing. It is REALLY BAD to have a book written at a post-graduate level because no one wants to read it. Your maximum reading level should be 8th grade, but aim for as low as you can go (between 3rd and 5th grade) without diminishing quality.
  9. ZeroGPT. Readers will tap out 40% earlier if they suspect a bot wrote the content. Make sure your writing sounds human-written.
  10. I Need A Book Cover. Don't hire your cover designer on Upwork or Fiverr. Use this site instead and hire one of the best book cover designers in the world. Same deal with your book interior (click here).
